Whoop whoop, where’s the sound of the police?

For anyone who’s ever played Grand Theft Auto for more than two seconds, or has been lucky enough to take a trip to LA, you’ll know just how iconic the Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor police cars are there – along with the palm trees, they’re just part of that aesthetic that makes the place so damn cool.

Fans of this long-bodied V8 brute are likely to be a little disappointed to hear about what these icons are set to be replaced with, though. Because the LAPD has just put an order in for 100 BMW i3s to sharpen up its fleet, along with 104 new charging stations.

Before you get too agitated, however, you must remember that as well as being almost completely silent (ideal for late-night drugs busts in downtown Compton), i3s are actually genuinely rapid little cars, especially during chases around the rat runs of LA’s grid-section road network, we imagine.

What do you think? Will So Cal crooks take these cute little EVs seriously? Only time will tell…
