So it seems the rumours are true. Venturi has confirmed that itself and the legend that is Jacques Villeneuve have parted ways mid-season on neutral terms.
“Venturi Formula E Team and Jacques Villeneuve are ending their FIA Formula-E Championship collaboration in a mutual agreement.
The Canadian driver had joined the team early in August 2015 and participated in the first 3 rounds of the second season. The split comes after a disagreement over the future direction of the team.”
– From Venturi’s statement earlier today
There’s still very little information on why this has come about, but with Villeneuve failing to pick up any points in the first three races and never fully seeming comfortable inside his car from the word go, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that he never took very well to this race series.
Since leaving F1, Villeneuve has bounced around different race series and when Venturi announced him as one of its 2015-2016 drivers, people were both happy and sceptical in equal measures, especially about how long he would last in the futuristic sport. Oh well, at least it lasted longer than his IndyCar career…
On a personal note, we’re going to miss him. He is a legend of racing and has a cool Canadian charm that was nice to soak up around the paddock. From the EV Performance team we bid you farewell and good luck in your future ventures.
