The Volvo EX30: A Remarkable Blend of Size, Speed and Sustainability
Welcome to the future of electric cars! Offering an exquisite blend of size, speed, and sustainability, the e-SUV – Volvo EX30 is all set to reshape the e-mobility landscape. This tiny titan is Volvo’s most compact electric offering yet, but packs the might to outpace every other Volvo ever made.
Distinct Design and Eco-Conscious Construction
Built smaller than the beloved XC40, the EX30 displays a more refined aesthetic. The traditional front grill is replaced with a subtle indent, cleverly crafted to echo the iconic Volvo logo, contributing to a more streamlined and sleeker profile. Its resemblance to Audi‘s ground-breaking A2 isn’t easily overlooked, in spite of its distinctive, less aggressive and curiously attractive appeal.
The real magic, however, lies in its material constitution. A significant percentage of the EX30’s aluminum (25%), steel (17%) and plastic (17%) is recycled, with an option for carpets made entirely from reclaimed plastic bottles. These strategic decisions add to the car’s sustainable credentials.
Impressive Environmental Footprint and Performance
The Volvo EX30 not only shines in design but also demonstrates remarkable eco-conscientiousness with the lowest lifetime CO2 footprint amongst all Volvo models to date. Even when driven for 120,000 miles, the EX30 is anticipated to emit less than 30 tonnes of CO2, showcasing Volvo’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions across their supply chain and production facilities.
Interestingly, the greenest Volvo is also the fastest. The top-of-the-line Twin Motor Performance variant of the EX30 delivers an impressive 428 horsepower and can bolt from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds! The base rear-drive version provides 272 horsepower but still manages to reach 60mph in under 5.5 seconds.
Tailored Battery Choices Optimised for Driving Needs
Volvo proposes a unique solution to the standard one-size-fits-all approach to EV battery packs. The EX30 offers different battery chemistry based on your driving needs. The base model is equipped with a 51kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery, offering a cost-effective solution while maintaining a competitive range.
For those in need of more mileage, the mid and top-spec versions support a 64kWh lithium-ion battery, extending the range to nearly 300 miles. All variants can charge rapidly at between 134 and 153 kW, completing a 10-80% top-up in less than half an hour.
Pricing and Availability
The EX30’s price tag is as attractive as its features. The mid-spec Plus is set to launch at less than £34,000 in the UK. The high-end Ultra sport variant will be priced over £40,000, while the entry-level Core model is anticipated to cost around £32,000.
Forward-Thinking Interiors and Safety Features
Inside the EX30, you’ll find an innovative dashboard layout that challenges traditional design norms. All speakers are located on the dashboard like a soundbar, and the window switches are centrally located, enhancing manufacturing efficiency and reducing potential points of failure.
In the safety department, Volvo doesn’t skimp – an advanced driving aid that performs automated overtakes, and a sensor that prevents door opening if a cyclist is coming all contribute to making the EX30 as secure as it is innovative.
