Imagine a world where your taxi arrives at your doorstep without a driver, a future where the future of mobility is defined not by individuals owning cars, but a system in which shared, autonomous vehicles rule the urban landscape. Meet the Verne concept, a ground-breaking masterpiece orchestrated by Mate Rimac and his consortium.
The Verne concept is a meticulously designed driverless RoboTaxi, set to form an integral part of what Rimac foresees as the ‘ecosystem’ of future cities. This incredible innovation is not a distant dream, with plans to roll out the first models as soon as 2026.
Designed with Safety and Comfort in Mind
Crafted from scratch on a unique platform, the Verne concept prioritises safety and comfort, with no room for traditional controls such as a steering wheel or pedals. Instead, it puts its trust in Mobileye, a leader in autonomous tech, to make sure this driverless future is as safe as possible.
This technology comprises advanced AI, multiple cameras, lidars, and radars, giving the RoboTaxi the ability to scan and react to varied situations, even adapting to local driving styles and weather conditions.
Revolutionising the In-Car Experience
The Verne concept isn’t just about mobility; it’s about creating a whole new in-car experience. The two-seater design focuses on maximising interior space, with swivelling seats and sliding doors for easy entry and exit.
The ubiquitous dashboard is replaced by a gigantic 43in display and a 17-speaker audio system. Above, a ‘Halo Ring’ provides a unique viewing experience, adding a futuristic twist to your journey.
Pre-trip customisation through a dedicated app allows passengers to personalise seat settings, temperature, interior lighting, and even the vehicle’s scent, transforming it into an individualised sanctuary on wheels.
Urban Infrastructure: The Mothership Concept
The Verne ecosystem extends beyond the vehicle itself. Each city will house a ‘Mothership’, a central hub where each vehicle returns for inspection, maintenance, cleaning, and charging. This innovative concept paints an intriguing picture of what Mate Rimac envisions as the future of urban mobility.
With the first wave of these innovative RoboTaxis set to hit the streets of Croatia by 2026, it won’t be long before this driverless revolution reaches the shores of Britain and beyond. The future of urban transport is here, and it’s driverless.
