With much online speculation and quite a few leaks, Tesla has finally unwrapped the revamped Model 3. Promising a more refined, comfortable, and high-end driving experience, this fresh take on Tesla’s popular model has intrigued the EV world. Emerging with sharper outlines and an upgraded design, the new Model 3 has shed its ‘frog-like’ looks in favour of a sleek and modern aesthetic, complete with redesigned headlights and brake lights.
In the Pursuit of Aerodynamic Excellence
Tesla’s redesign aims to enhance aero efficiency and, combined with tweaked wheels and tyres, claims to reduce wind noise while extending range. The Model 3 Long Range AWD, for example, now boasts a journey of 391 miles on a single charge — a notable increase from its earlier 374 miles. Moreover, owners have the option to choose from two eye-catching new colours: Ultra Red and Stealth Grey.
Reinventing the Interior
The interior of the new Model 3 received even more extensive modifications. Tesla’s use of aluminium and textiles is intended to create a feeling of ‘elevated execution’. The revamped centre console, built from superior materials, offers more storage and integrates a double wireless charging pad. The familiar 15.4-inch touchscreen has a thinner bezel, providing increased space for various functionalities, including an enjoyable arcade game feature. The Model 3’s interior also benefits from the introduction of ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and heated seats all around, offering a more comfortable and luxurious journey for all.
Quieter and More Connected
With 360-degree acoustic glass, enhanced suspension bushings and seals, and additional sound-damping material, the new Model 3 promises a quieter riding experience than ever before. The updated infotainment system boasts three USB-C ports, an eight-inch display for rear-seat passengers, and even Tesla’s own sound system. Furthermore, the new model comes with Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal pre-installed.
Smart Shift System and Indicator Shift
In line with the Model S and Model X, the Model 3 will automatically choose forward or reverse at the start of your journey, thanks to Tesla’s Smart Shift system. However, possibly the most controversial change is the relocation of the indicator from a traditional stalk to a pair of haptic buttons on the steering wheel — a decision Tesla defends as contributing to an ‘uncluttered driving experience’.
Expected Arrival and Price
The first deliveries of the new Model 3 are set to arrive in the UK and Ireland in 2024. While Tesla has announced the spruced-up model is ‘available now’, the old one still appears on the online configurator. Hence, the current price of £42,990 is subject to change.
The Model 3 continues to be a success story for Tesla, with over two million units sold globally and regular appearances among the UK’s top 10 best-sellers. While these updates certainly add to its appeal, time will tell if they are enough to keep Tesla at the top of the EV game.
