A new electrification map is being charted across Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania (AMIEO) region under ‘The Arc’, Nissan‘s new global business transformation plan. This strategy, poised to uplift Nissan’s competitiveness and value, is set to take the wheel on an expansive product offensive, technological advancements, and remarkable partnerships, while working closely with a meticulous regional strategy. Let’s delve into Nissan’s ambition in this region and understand how it plans to shift gears towards an electric future.
‘The Arc’ – Nissan’s Bold Blueprint:
As part of the journey towards achieving Nissan’s long-term Ambition 2030 vision, ‘The Arc’ embarks on an ambitious goal of selling 300,000 units in the AMIEO region, which forms nearly a third of the company’s global sales ambition. This translates to a deployment of 11 new models, including five all-new EVs. Guillaume Cartier, Chairperson, Nissan AMIEO, said this comprehensive plan champions growth and competitiveness as Nissan enters a new era.
Under the Bonnet:
Nissan’s strategic partnerships, especially the Alliance with Renault/Ampere, will play a significant role in launching new models like the Compact EV, which is set to replace the existing Nissan Micra. Another focal point of ‘The Arc’ is the realisation of Nissan’s EV36Zero vision for EV and battery manufacturing. The plan includes the production of new electric vehicles at Sunderland plant in the UK, an initiative encouraging up to £3bn investment from Nissan and partners.

Electrification Progress – A Global Perspective:
Nissan’s striking ambition resonates across various AMIEO sub-regions. In Europe, for instance, Nissan is aiming for more than 40% of its sales mix to be 100% electric by 2026. A significant milestone in ‘The Arc’ will be Nissan’s Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology, commercialised via affordable two-way home chargers, providing an opportunity to share stored energy in the car’s battery with the electricity grid. This initiative will offer new revenue opportunities, not just for Nissan, but also its customers, making a compelling case for the environment.
Sub-Region Highlights:
Each region covered under ‘The Arc’ will experience unique growth trajectories and electrification endeavours. For instance, in the Middle East, customers can anticipate five new Nissan SUVs. In Africa, the aim is to double sales to 110,000 units, introducing 100% electric vehicles to South African consumers by the end of ‘The Arc’. The European market will see the arrival of five new EVs, including the Nissan LEAF, JUKE and a 100% electric replacement for Nissan Micra. Nissan’s ‘The Arc’ represents a leap towards a diverse, agile and electrified landscape in the AMIEO region. The strategic partnerships, regional adaptation of the EV strategy and the broader global vision underline Nissan’s commitment to a sustainable future. As ‘The Arc’ unfurls, it will be interesting to observe Nissan’s progress and how these plans translate into real-world performance, catering to evolving customer needs – a pursuit that will play a crucial role in moulding the fate of EVs in the AMIEO region.
