It’s official: has launched the EX30 single motor Core trim, establishing itself as more affordable than the basic EV3 Air by a standout £145. This new entry-level trim comes in at £32,850, offering up to 209 miles of driving range – about 50 miles less than the EV3’s range – while still packing in a respectable amount of tech kit.

Tech Specs

The EX30’s spec includes a parking camera, adaptive LED lights, parking sensors, 18in alloys, and a 12.3in Google-powered infotainment screen. The Core trim can even be upgraded with an Extended Range powertrain, pushing the maximum mileage on one charge up to 295. This is achieved through the use of an energy-saving heat pump incorporated into the climate control system of the same 64kWh NMC battery. This puts a slight dent in your pocket though, as it will cost you £37,050.

The Core and Beyond

The Core precedes the Plus and Ultra trims, with prices and ranges starting from £38,545 and 214 miles respectively. Volvo announces that orders are now open and deliveries of the EX30 Core are set to kick off early next year.

Additional Trims

Additionally, the Swedish/Chinese automaker highlights that the seven-seater XC90 also boasts a couple of new trims. They’ve introduced the Plus Edition and Ultra Edition to replace the identically-named Plus and Ultra trims of the past. This seven-letter addition to the name implies enhanced seat upholstery, front vented seats, tinted windows, and larger wheels (21in, an increase from 20in for the Plus Edition and 22in, from the original 21in for the Ultra Edition). Exciting times indeed.

The Electrifying Race

Volvo’s decision to slash prices while still providing high quality tech and extended mileage options might just be the spark that lights the fuse in the electric vehicle pricing war. With the ball now firmly in the competitors’ court, it’s time to watch how this race unfolds.
