A New E-tron in the Making
Audi, once again, aims to astound with the roll-out of its latest electric offering, the SQ6 Sportback e-Tron. Following the practical and high-performing SQ6 e-tron, the Sportback version promises the same remarkable performance with a style designed with an edge.
A Blend of Power and Speed
Nestled within its PPE platform, the SQ6 Sportback E-tron showcases a formidable 100kWh battery, in collaboration with a dual motor AWD setup, producing an impressive 482bhp. Whilst this might be a slight dip from the 509bhp of its SQ6 predecessor, it manages to retain the same impressive 0-62mph time of 4.3s and a top speed of 143mph. These figures signify the potential for ‘dash-inducing’ speed.
Aesthetic Touches
In an attempt to amplify its speed capacities, Audi has given the Sportback’s design a nifty, streamlined twist. An homage to the first-generation Audi TT Coupe, the Sportback’s sloping roofline enhances its sporty appeal, with the silhouette of the vehicle presenting an elegant, minimalist design akin to a streamlined water droplet.
Lower and Sportier
With its ground-hugging stature, 37mm lower than its SQ6 SUV counterpart, the Sportback e-Tron aims to cater more towards the performance end of the spectrum. The revamped front axle, optimized axle kinematics, and the addition of adaptive air suspension to the SQ6, assert Audi’s commitment to dynamism, agility, and excellent steering response.
Choice of Power
The Q6 Sportback E-tron range offers options for every Audi fan. The entry-level variant boasts an 83kWh battery with a single rear-mounted motor, presenting a solid power output of 249bhp, a 0-62mph time of 7.0s and a projected range of 339 miles. On the other hand, the Q6 Sportback e-tron ‘performance’ trim steps up the game with a 100kWh battery, wielding a robust power output of 302bhp and a slightly better 0-62mph time of 6.6s. This is topped with the Q6 Sportback e-tron performance quattro, exhibiting two motors, 382bhp and a 0-62mph time of 5.9s, with an impressive range of 395 miles. The SQ6 manages an estimated range of up to 377 miles.
Compromise on Space
Embracing its sporty aesthetics, the Sportback loses out slightly on practicality. As compared to the Q6 SUV’s boot space of 526 litres, expanding to 1,526 litres with rear seats down, the Sportback offers a trimmed down space of 511 litres, surging to 1,373 litres when the rear seats are folded.
UK prices remain to be announced. However, German prices begin from €66,100 and soar to €96,200 for the SQ6 model.
The SQ6 Sportback e-Tron, with its power and panache, promises to make a mark among the electric vehicle enthusiasts. While it brings a fresh perspective to the traditional SUV design, it may require consumers to make a small compromise on practicality to enjoy the thrill of driving a sportier vehicle.
