In a striking turn of events, unveils their Mini Electric Convertible. True to its name, this innovative chariot combines both ‘electric’ and ‘convertible’ features.

The Exclusivity of the Mini Electric Convertible

Drawing inspiration from the rousing response to their electric Mini drop-top concept last summer, Mini decided to go into full production. However, the production run will be limited. Just 999 of these pint-sized electric vehicles(EV) will be crafted, with a mere 150 allocated for the UK.

Chances are that these miniature EVs will be scooped up quickly. Given that one in every five Minis sold in Europe is an electric one, this new offering will likely be a hot seller when it hits the market in Summer 2023. So, what’s on offer for this price tag?

Key Features of the Mini Electric Convertible

The most notable feature is an electrically-powered fabric soft top, replacing the fixed metal, capable of opening and closing at speeds of up to 18mph. You can adjust it to a sliding roof, akin to the Mini Electric Convertible’s main competitor—the 500e Convertible. Though the latter still carries a roof frame, both are in the league of small, open-top, electric vehicles.

Below the roof, you’ll discover standard-fit sports seats up front and a leather steering wheel. The car’s interior is jazzed up with funky lighting and ‘Piano Black’ surfaces, along with a wind deflector, a head-up display, abundant assistance tech, and special badging. A noteworthy feature is the iconic Mini Electric dashboard layout.

Performance Specs of the Mini Electric Convertible

Underneath the cosmetic allure lies Mini’s acclaimed 32.6kWh battery that powers a single electric motor, driving the front wheels. The motor offers 182bhp and 199lb ft of torque, with a 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds, and a WLTP-certified range of 201km (around 125 miles). This is slightly less than the Electric hatch’s approximately 140-mile range.

In the words of Mini’s boss, Stefanie Wurst, “We can offer 999 Mini customers an extraordinary and exclusive open-air go-kart feeling,”. The twist, however, is in the price tag. This Mini Electric Convertible will set you back by a whopping £52,500. A fact that’s bound to make potential buyers pause and think.

Ultimately, the Mini Electric Convertible is set to be a game-changer in the EV market, despite its hefty price tag. Its exclusive nature and impressive features mean it’s likely to be a quick sell. So, EV enthusiasts, get ready—the Mini Electric Convertible is about to hit the UK roads!
