The Overhauled Avatar of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S
An exceedingly impressive revelation by Porsche has us all enraptured. Say hello to the wonderfully enhanced version of their electric performance car – the Porsche Taycan 2.0. This new avatar comes with impressive upgrades, making it lighter, faster, and even more power-packed than its predecessor. More intriguingly, the range-topping Taycan Turbo S leaves us open-mouthed with its staggering acceleration, doing 0-62mph in a mere 2.4 seconds.

Once the exclusive realm of horsepower-heavy underground street racing vehicles, such breathtaking speed is now within your grasp, wrapped up in an electric family car that’s as plush as can be. The updated Taycan Turbo S shaves a whole 0.4 seconds off its predecessor’s time, while the base Taycan elevates performance by getting 0.6s quicker, clocking 0-62mph in 4.8s – outpacing even the E46 M3!

Innovative Elements that Dictate the Enhanced Pace
The boost in speed can be attributed to a multitude of factors, a prime one being the brand-new, redesigned rear-axle motor that’s 10kg lighter than its predecessor and can deploy up to 107bhp (80kW) more power. An upgraded ‘pulse inverter’ comes into play for the more efficient control of the drivetrain.
The Turbo S also benefits from a new ‘push-to-pass’ function that offers a 94bhp (70kW) boost for 10 seconds, and the Sport Chrono pack is included as standard.
Impressive Numbers and Enhanced Capabilities
Breaking down the numbers, the new ‘Performance Battery Plus’ delivers 105 kWh(an increase over the 93kWh battery of its predecessor), extending the Taycan’s range to a whopping 421 miles (678km) on a single charge – that’s 109 miles more. The Taycan range also boasts better software, an upgraded thermal management system, a next-gen heat pump, improved recuperation from braking energy, and faster recharging capabilities.
Power has been significantly elevated across the models, with the base Taycan getting up to 430bhp (320kW), the Turbo 872bhp (660kW), and the Turbo S a stunning 940bhp (700kW) – almost a gazillion horsepower, as it turns out.
Superior Handling and Suspension
Ensuring stability at high speeds, adaptive dampers are now fitted as standard across the range. An advanced self-levelling tech keeps the Taycan stable, automatically lowering up to 22mm above a certain speed. For those seeking a more luxurious experience, Porsche offers the ‘active ride’ suspension which is more adept at handling uneven surfaces and responds lightning-fast to adjustments.
The New Taycan Aesthetic and Availability
Though modest, the updated Taycan features a subtle facelift enough to label it as new whilst maintaining the original’s handsome aesthetics. The Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo, and Taycan Sport Turismo are due to hit UK markets later this year, with prices to be announced soon.
In the words of model line boss Kevin Giek, “We ushered in the new era of e-mobility with the Taycan at the end of 2019. It immediately proved to be a game changer and innovative pioneer in the e-vehicle segment….”. If you ask us, Porsche’s electrifying journey is just getting started, and we’re all waiting with bated breath to see what they come up with next!
