has given the iX a facelift, and while the headlines focus on range and power, there’s one unexpected addition: a light-up kidney grille. Because if there’s one thing every EV needs, apparently, it’s a glow-in-the-dark front end. But let’s put the theatrics aside—this updated iX brings some real improvements where it counts.

What’s New?

  • More Range – Up to 426 miles (WLTP) on a full charge.
  • More Power – The range-topping iX M60 now packs 650bhp.
  • New Look – Sharper styling, updated interior tech, and, of course, that illuminated grille.

The Power to Surprise

The iX hasn’t exactly been slow, but BMW decided it needed more grunt. The entry-level xDrive50 model now makes 516bhp, while the performance-focused M60 gets 650bhp and 811lb-ft of torque. That’s good for a 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds, making it quicker than some proper M cars of the past.

Despite this added performance, BMW has somehow increased efficiency. The 111.5kWh battery means the iX xDrive50 now offers 426 miles of range—a noticeable jump from the pre-facelift model’s 380-mile maximum. Real-world figures will be lower, of course, but it’s still an impressive improvement.

Charging & Tech Upgrades

BMW’s facelift isn’t just about power and range—it’s also about convenience. The iX now supports DC fast charging up to 195kW, meaning a 10-80% charge takes just 30 minutes if you can find a suitably powerful charger.

Inside, BMW has given the iX a more refined iDrive system, with faster software and new AI-powered assistance. The brand’s latest Panoramic Vision HUD is also set to debut on the iX, projecting key info across the full width of the windscreen.

The Looks: Still Divisive, Now More Illuminated

BMW’s design department hasn’t backed down on the iX’s controversial styling. The massive kidney grilles remain, but they now feature Illuminated Contour Lighting, effectively making them glow at night. Whether that’s cool or cringeworthy depends on your taste.

Other tweaks include sharper LED headlights, redesigned bumpers, and subtle aero refinements. BMW says these changes improve efficiency, but let’s be real—you’ll mostly notice the grille.

Is It Enough?

With the likes of the Mercedes EQS SUV and Model X in the mix, BMW needed to step up its game. The facelifted iX does just that, offering a blend of range, tech, and sheer power that makes it a serious contender.

The question is: will the light-up grille win over the sceptics, or just add more fuel to the design debate? Let us know what you think.
