The Return of a Legend: A New Interpretation of Ford Capri

The all-new Capri, a blast from the past, has arrived and it’s nothing like what you would expect. The long-bonneted hero of the 70s has undergone a spectacular transformation, emerging as an electric SUV-crossover, remarkably different from its original coupe design.

Often challenging to accept, this change also symbolises the evolution of the automotive industry. Ford has given the beloved Capri a new life, matching current trends on its capabilities and appeal. The nods to the signature old school Capri are subtle but intentional, intertwining the past and future in an electrifying harmony.

A Partnership for Innovation: Ford Collaborates with Volkswagen

This reimagination of the iconic Capri has been made possible by an exciting collaboration between Ford and . The underpinnings of the new Capri heavily borrow from Volkswagen’s ID.5—delivering a re-worked ID.4 known as the Explorer.

The Aesthetics: Classic Coupled with Modern

The all-new Capri is a sight for sore eyes. It couples its classic nomenclature with a modern and slightly generic design that still manages to stand out in a crowd of EVs. Subtle traces of the Capri heritage are visible in the front-end design, ‘dogbone’, and the overall upright stance.

Performance: Power and Practicality Embodied

The electric Capri will be available in two models in the UK at launch, designated ‘Extended-range’ in either standard or Premium trim. The standard version boasts a 284bhp single-motor rear-wheel drive with a 77kWh battery and an impressive 390-mile range. The premium all-wheel-drive version, on the other hand, houses two motors, delivering 336bhp and 368 miles of range.

Both vehicles come with competitive charging capabilities—135kW max DC charging for the 77kWh variant and 185kW for the 79kWh model promising 10-80 per cent recharge in under half an hour.

The Interior: Comfort and Connectivity

Inside, the Capri is a blend of luxury and practicality. The 14.6in portrait touchscreen serves as the main control hub, adjustable according to preference. Behind it lies a ‘secret’ storage area— a perfect blend of style and functionality.

The Capri’s software is based on Volkswagen’s last-generation tech, assuring smooth operation and compatibility.

A Glance into the Future

The reimagined Ford Capri promises to bring forth a revolution in EV performance. With suspension slightly lower than the Explorer, it is bound to offer a more sporting experience, positioning itself as a potent competitor in the electric SUV market.

For those with a soft spot for Ford’s blue oval and a taste for electric SUVs, the Capri poses an appealing alternative to the Mustang and Explorer. The proof of the pudding, as they say, will be in the driving— and we can’t wait to see how it performs on the road.
