Much to the surprise and fascination of car enthusiasts, is determined to wave goodbye to the combustion engine Macan this year, and in doing so, welcome a brand-new era of electric vehicles (EVs). The audacity of this move cannot be overstated, especially given how well-loved and widely accepted the Cayenne and Macan were in the global market, and notably, how the latter currently holds the title for Porsche’s highest-selling model in the UK.

A Complicated Birth but A Bright Future

The petrol-powered Macan draws its curtain on European sales on 1st July this year, due to new EU cybersecurity rules. With Brexit providing additional loopholes, the combustion engine Macan will continue its victorious sales in the UK throughout 2024.

A Superior Electric Vehicle or More Than That?

On the face of it, the electric Macan makes for a compelling package. It’s available in two models – the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, both equipped with Porsche’s new 800-volt PPE (Premium Platform Electric). They boast efficient charging capabilities and a solid range of up to 380 miles for the Macan 4 and 367 for the Turbo.

The Macan certainly doesn’t lack in the power department. The Macan 4 delivers a substantial 400bhp and can charge from 0 to 62mph in 5.2 seconds. Meanwhile, supported by its launch control, the Turbo can impressively reach the same speed in just 3.3 seconds.

An Evolved Look and A Modern Aesthetic

The aesthetical appeal of the new Macan cannot be overlooked. It’s a neat blend of modern Porsche design, tailored to fit the Macan mould. It further boasts a redesigned interior that truly sets this EV apart, incorporating quality materials, excellent ergonomics and a plethora of digital technology.

The Transition from ICE to EV: Is it Worth the Leap?

The current Macan, equipped with a 263bhp turbocharged petrol engine, retails at £53,400, while the high-end Macan GTS goes up to £71,700. In contrast, the new electric models, Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, start at £69,800 and £95,000 respectively. While this might seem like a steep climb, potential owners can take advantage of EV tax benefits and salary sacrifice schemes to offset some of these costs.

The highly anticipated new Porsche Macan is here, and it represents an audacious, committed stride towards a greener future. The question is: should you take a leap of faith with Porsche’s new direction or stick to the established petrol variants? We’ll need to wait to drive the electric Macan to give you a definitive answer.
