The All-New Smartphone-Savvy Volvo EX30
Geared towards the younger demographic, the forthcoming Volvo EX30 electric SUV, unveiled in glimpses last year and earlier this month, is set to make waves in the electric vehicle landscape. Prioritising smartphone integration and ingenious storage, the EX30 encapsulates what Generation Z desires in personal transportation.
Laden with sustainable materials and trendy trappings like denim, a comprehensive 12.3-inch display, and an optional Harmon Kardon sound system upgrade, the EX30 is not just a car; it’s a lifestyle statement.
Calm and Focused: The Single Display Strategy
As Volvo takes a leap into the minimalist design playbook, the EX30 fully embraces the “less is more” philosophy. The vehicle’s interior features an all-encompassing single display, reinforcing a serene cabin environment while promising uncompromised functionality.
The head of UX, Tom Stovicek, explains that Volvo’s single-screen approach to the EX30 allows for relevant driving information—speed, charge levels, navigation, media, and controls—to be instantly visible and easily accessible. Additionally, a contextual bar will display functions most relevant to the user’s current needs.
User-Friendly Storage Solutions and High-Tech Integration
In a bid to redefine interior design norms, Volvo has repositioned the glove compartment into the dashboard’s centre. This subtle shift improves access for both driver and passenger and includes reconfigurable cupholders, accommodating anything from your morning latte to your smartphone.
The EX30 is Volvo’s first car model to feature wireless Apple CarPlay and will provide Google-based infotainment, including Google Maps navigation, Assistant, and Play. Furthermore, it will support 5G connectivity wherever available.
Rear passengers aren’t left out either, with specially-designed smartphone pockets in the front seats and a slide-out storage box from the centre console.
Volvo’s Impression on the Future of Automotive Design
Lisa Reeves, head of interior design, states that the Volvo EX30 is a quintessential embodiment of Scandinavian design. By employing innovative materials and intelligent functionality, the EX30 epitomises Volvo’s commitment to superior user experience– all neatly wrapped in a compact package.
Volvo is set to officially unveil the EX30 next week, with pre-orders kick-starting on the same day. Is the Gen Z audience ready to embrace this novelty in the automotive scene? Only time will tell.
