Smart UK has selected Ohme as its exclusive home EV charging partner, marking a new collaboration focused on providing home charging solutions for smart vehicle owners.
As part of the agreement, Ohme chargers will be showcased in smart dealerships, offering customers an integrated option for home charging. The partnership includes a complete package of services, such as installation, retailer training, and ongoing support, aiming to simplify the transition to electric vehicle ownership.
Jason Allbutt, CEO of smart UK, highlighted the compatibility of the two brands:
“Our vehicles are designed to offer an emotive yet intuitive experience that adapts to the user’s needs, making Ohme’s unique dynamic charging capabilities the perfect match for us.”
Ohme’s CEO, David Watson, pointed to the growing appeal of smart’s EV lineup:
“The smart #1 and new #3 are some of the most exciting new electric vehicles on the market. This collaboration with smart helps to underline Ohme’s position as the UK’s fastest-growing home EV charging company.”
Features of Ohme Chargers
Ohme’s chargers use live grid data to adjust charging schedules dynamically, aligning with lower-cost and renewable energy periods. The chargers are compatible with a range of energy tariffs, including those from providers such as Octopus Energy and OVO. For example, charging a smart #1’s 62kWh battery on a tariff like Intelligent Octopus Go (7.0p/kWh) can cost approximately £4.34.
Additionally, the chargers can integrate with solar panels, allowing users to prioritise renewable energy use for vehicle charging. This feature provides an option to further reduce reliance on grid electricity and align with environmentally conscious charging practices.
The partnership reflects broader trends in the EV industry, where manufacturers and energy solution providers are collaborating to offer more streamlined and sustainable options for vehicle charging. Ohme’s role in other partnerships, such as with Mercedes-Benz UK and Motability Operations, highlights a growing focus on making EV charging accessible and adaptable.
For smart, the inclusion of a home charging partner adds another layer to its electric vehicle ecosystem, catering to the practical needs of EV owners.
