Born to be wild and free of emissions, electric vehicles (EVs) are now ready to join you on your next summer adventure. Exciting data from and UK show a surge in the deployment of EV charging points around the UK, making EV road trips to your favourite holiday spots a realistic and exciting possibility.

Making Your Way to the Great Outdoors

With over 64,000 charging points stationed across more than 33,000 locations nationwide, an increase of 45 per cent this year alone, EVs are not just gaining traction – they’re accelerating at full speed. Whether you’re heading for a tranquil retreat in the Yorkshire Dales, exploring the rugged grandeur of the Peak District, or drinking in the sprawling beauty of the Lake District, going electric has never been easier.

Graham Biggs, Corporate Communications Director at BMW UK, is enthusiastic about the momentum. “We believe that nature should be protected and accessible for everyone and that’s why we’re so proud of the work we are doing with UK National Parks through The Recharge in Nature partnership.”

The Gear Shift Towards a Greener Holiday

BMW’s partnership with UK National Parks is expected to reduce driving emissions and noise pollution, making your journey as smooth and silent as the serene landscapes you’ll traverse. Currently, 135 new EV charge points are being installed across all 15 national parks. So far, 78 of these have been activated, making it easier than ever to discover the great outdoors while staying plugged in.

Melanie Shufflebotham, Co-founder and COO of Zapmap, sees enormous potential in these developments: “With improvements in vehicle range, an increasing number of enroute chargers and more chargers available at leisure destinations, EV drivers can plan fun days out with confidence.”

BMW and Sustainability: A Partnership Going the Distance

BMW’s collaboration with UK National Parks isn’t just about convenience—it’s a demonstration of the company’s commitment to sustainability. BMW Group is at the vanguard of tackling climate change in the automotive sector, pledging to halve CO2 emissions per vehicle by 2030. In joining the Business Ambition for 1.5°C as part of the Paris Climate Agreement, BMW Group reaffirms its goal of full climate neutrality across the entire value chain by 2050.

The rise of EVs is not just a step towards a cleaner and more sustainable future; it also presents an exciting new way to explore the great British outdoors. The collaboration between BMW and UK National Parks is a shining example of how sustainability and adventure can go hand in hand. So, why not gear up and head for the hills in an EV this summer?
