The Power within

The renowned brand is stirring quite a buzz with the reveal of the Jeep Wagoneer S, an electric SUV beast boasting an impressive 592bhp. This energy-packed four-wheeler holds a substantial 617lb ft of torque; an acceleration time of 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds is nothing short of a remarkable feat for Jeep. The Wagoneer S is their first ever ‘global battery-electric vehicle’ with sales scheduled to kick-off in the US and Canada later this year, branching out to other global markets by 2025.

The Meticulous Exterior

The all-new Wagoneer S is beautifully crafted on the STLA Large platform equipped with a 400-volt architecture and a colossal 100.5kWh battery pack. Though the declared range of “more than 300 miles” falls a bit short of being impressive.

Jeep’s eye for detail is evident in its design. The exterior oozes an aerodynamic sophistication by encapsulating a seven-slot grille, a raked windscreen, the curved bonnet, and flush, pocket-style door handles, contributing to its sleek 0.29 Cd figure. In addition, the four-wheel drive and multiple drive modes – Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, and Sand, ensure it’s ready for any adventure head-on.

The Interior – A Matter of Debate

Inside the car, you’re greeted with a barrage of digital screens. A total of “45 inches of usable digital screen space” is evenly distributed across a 12.3-inch infotainment screen in the middle, a 12.3-inch dial display on one side, and a 12.25-inch front passenger display on the other. An additional screen controls the climate of the vehicle.

The Wagoneer S borrows some interior design cues from the Grand Wagoneer, with its dash featuring ‘wine-red’ stitching and a flat-bottomed, two-spoke steering wheel. But the abundance of screens and stark modernity becomes overwhelming and may not appeal to everyone.

The Final Verdict

On the performance front, the Jeep Wagoneer S stands tall with a meaty kerbweight of 2,570kg and a towing capacity of 1,542kg. However, its interior comes across as a letdown, with too many screens and a severe lack of thoughtful integration of technology and design. Ultimately, the Jeep Wagoneer S is a powerhouse on wheels but needs to do some reconsidering when it comes to the inside story.
