has finally pulled the covers off the 5 Turbo 3E, a wild, all-electric reimagining of the legendary Turbo. This isn’t just a nod to the past—it’s a modern-day electric hooligan, built to slide, spin and shred tyres while looking like something straight out of an ‘80s fever dream.

What Exactly Is the Renault 5 Turbo 3E?

At first glance, the Turbo 3E looks like someone took a classic Renault 5, pumped it full of steroids, and threw on a cyberpunk bodykit. And honestly, that’s not far from the truth. Renault has built this thing with a carbon-fibre chassis, massive box arches, and an oversized rear wing, making it as aggressive as the rally monsters of old.

Underneath all that attitude sits a 533bhp dual-motor setup, sending power to the rear wheels. That’s nearly double the power of the legendary Renault 5 Turbo 2. But here’s where things get ridiculous—torque output is a staggering 3,540lb ft. That’s enough to make even the most serious supercars look underpowered.

Serious Performance, Built for Fun

Despite being a proper performance EV, Renault hasn’t designed the 5 Turbo 3E to set Nürburgring lap records. Instead, it’s been built for pure, sideways drifting fun. A 50/50 weight distribution keeps it balanced, while a rally-style handbrake lets you flick the rear out at will.

  • 0-62mph? Just 3.5 seconds.
  • Top speed? Not the priority, but it’ll hit 124mph.
  • Drift mode? Absolutely. This thing is a tyre-shredding machine.

Retro Meets Digital

Inside, it’s a blend of old-school rally car and modern tech. The bucket seats and roll cage scream ‘track toy’, but the digital instrument panel brings it into the 21st century. Renault has even thrown in ten different driving modes, including one just for… donuts. Because why not?

Will It Actually Hit the Road?

Right now, the is a one-off concept, built to show off Renault’s commitment to performance EVs. But the hype is real, and given Renault’s push towards electrification, a toned-down production version wouldn’t be out of the question.

Whether or not it makes it to showrooms, one thing’s certain—the Turbo 3E proves that electric cars don’t have to be boring. If this is what Renault’s future looks like, we’re all in.
