A New Record Breaker in the Electric Vehicle Landscape
The Mercedes Vision EQXX, an all-electric concept marvel, never ceases to impress. After successfully completing a single-charge drive from Sindelfingen to Cassis spanning 1,008km, and another 1,202km excursion from Untertürkheim to Silverstone, the Vision EQXX has broken its own efficiency record on a recent mega road trip.

The most recent feat was a 1,010km (627.6 miles) journey from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Mercedes’ brand-new showroom in the glamorous city of Dubai. The desert trip, with ambient temperatures reaching a sizzling 34 degrees, proved to be no obstacle for this electric powerhouse.
Efficiency Unmatched: 8.4 miles per kWh
Despite the shorter distance in comparison to its previous record, what makes this run spectacular is the 192 miles of range the EQXX still possessed remaining in its near 100kWh battery upon reaching its destination. The EQXX accomplished an impressive efficiency of 8.4 miles per kWh during its 14h 42min journey, including 1h 57min of stationary time at the border crossing and driver swaps.

Such efficiency is a rare sight, even in the EV landscape. Most of the EVs we test at EV Performance usually record between 2.0 and 5.0 miles per kWh. However, the Vision EQXX has surpassed its own previous best achievement of 7.5 miles per kWh.
Performance Beyond Expectations: The EQXX’s Desert Run
The driver’s didn’t spare the EQXX on its Riyadh-Dubai trip. It clocked an average speed of 42.7mph and a top speed of 87mph throughout the journey. Mercedes’ innovative ‘multi-source heat pump’, which is close to entering production, was at work during the drive, proving effective in energy conservation while providing cooling comfort.

Harnessing Solar Power: EQXX’s Solar Roof
The desert sun gave Mercedes the perfect opportunity to test the solar roof of the EQXX. This feature doesn’t often get put through its paces in the not-so-sunny Silverstone circuit. However, this journey offered the ideal conditions to do so. The car’s 117 solar cells allowed the EV to recover a considerable 1.8kWh during the desert run, with the vehicle’s smart technology directing the driver where to park for optimal solar alignment.

A Promising Future Lies Ahead
The Mercedes Vision EQXX has covered a total of 14,503 miles during its lifetime of testing, with its ultra-aerodynamic design (boasting a 0.17 drag coefficient) sparking hope for a potential limited-run production. We can’t help but urge Mercedes: Make it happen!
As we continue to witness the paradigm-shifting progress in the world of electric vehicles, the Vision EQXX stands as a testament to the potential that lies in the heart of EV technology. So, here’s to more ground-breaking achievements in the future.
