The Taycan Turbo GT has been making waves in the electric vehicles sector, and for good reason. This potent new entrant has been spotted tearing it up on the Nürburgring, clocking a staggering 7m 7s lap time, and it finally now has an official name — Turbo GT.

Essentially a range-topper over the Turbo S, the Taycan Turbo GT has set its sights on established electric titans like the Model S Plaid and Air Sapphire. The beast has been fully unleashed, and its speed will surely give even the most seasoned electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts a run for their money.

Breaking Records…and Hearts?

With an impressive power output of 1,108bhp, the Taycan Turbo GT accelerates from 0-62mph in just 2.3 seconds. But it’s not merely about straight-line speed. The Turbo GT has also shattered the previous electric lap record held by the Tesla Model S at the Laguna Seca raceway, posting a time of 1m 27.8s — a full five seconds quicker!

The Turbo GT is not only turning heads but also causing stomachs to churn, especially when driven by certified racing driver, Lars Kern.

Unexpectedly Subtle

Surprisingly, the Taycan Turbo GT doesn’t visually shout about its record-breaking power, preferring to let its performance do the talking. Sure, there are some new air curtains at the front, lighter ceramic brakes, and a subtle ducktail spoiler at the back. But you wouldn’t guess you were looking at a machine boasting nearly twice the power of a Carrera GT.

For those wanting a bit more visual flair to scream about their car’s capabilities, Porsche is offering the Weissach Packages. This adds a fixed wing, carbon fibre elements, and a backseat replacement that shaves off 70kg, bringing the car’s weight to a relatively trim 2,290kg.

The Cost of Speed

The Turbo GT Weissach will likely hit the £180,000 mark, with the Weissach Package potentially pushing it to the £200k mark. Porsche plans to produce this speed-demon in limited numbers, a move that suggests an exploration of a rather uncharted territory for the brand.

Will Porsche fans line up to buy this hardcore, track-focused EV as they do for a GT3 RS or 911 S/T? Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, we can’t help but wonder — how will Tesla respond to this challenge? Will they silently bide their time before surprising us all with the release of the much-anticipated Roadster? Till then, let’s revel in the exciting new era of electrified performance.
