A Glimpse into the Future of Porsche: The Electric Cayenne
Porsche has made it official that the fourth-generation Cayenne will go entirely electric. The news comes after hints and rumours about Porsche’s plans to embrace electrification for its premium SUV model. This forthcoming car will be built on the advanced Premium Platform Electric (PPE) that works with 800-volt technology. The expected weight of this new model will surpass most of its counterparts.
Details regarding the electric Cayenne are scarce at present, but predictions indicate that its power will surpass the electric Macan’s, which reaches 630bhp and 479lb ft. This is unsurprising considering that both vehicles utilise the same PPE platform.
Key Features of the Electric Cayenne
Built with dual motors and all-wheel drive, the electric Cayenne is expected to deliver outstanding performance and smooth handling. The PPE platform also enables quick charging with a peak rate of 270kW, which means shorter stops for charging on long journeys.
Some disguised images of the new Cayenne have emerged that give a clue as to the radical exterior changes that could be a part of the new model. Notably, there are possible large vertical outlets on both sides of the rear bumper, active air vents similar to the 911 hybrid at the front, and changes to the light signatures, presenting a robust, modernised image.
Interior and Release Expectations
Despite the obvious changes to the exterior, it’s not anticipated that the interior of the Cayenne will receive a radical makeover. The current version of this high-end SUV recently underwent a significant interior revamp, and the upcoming model is expected to build upon this design.
Porsche has not yet made an announcement regarding the release of the electric Cayenne. However, the company has confirmed that it will continue retailing the ICE/hybrid versions of the current third-generation Cayenne alongside the impending electric model. This presents a unique opportunity for prospective buyers to choose from a range of Porsche Cayenne models, depending on their specific needs and desires.
In our modern era where many drivers are seeking greener alternatives, Porsche’s move towards electrification of its popular Cayenne model is a significant stride. Not only does it represent the brand’s commitment to eco-friendly motoring but also highlights Porsche’s willingness to innovate within its unmistakably luxurious, high-performance range.
