With the introduction of the Plug & Charge feature to their flagship Polestar 3 and its accompanying Polestar Charge App, Polestar takes a significant leap in public charging convenience for its customer base. Resembling a digital purse, this innovative technology handles user authentication and directly communicates with compatible public charge points, essentially negating the conventional, often laborious, charging session setup.

Driver convenience is at the forefront as customers can now arrive at their chosen charge point, connect their Polestar 3, and bask in the smooth charging process. A plethora of over 9,500 High Power Charging stations, including chosen Ionity and Mer locations, now support Plug & Charge.
Confidence in Innovation – A Word from the CTO
Polestar’s Chief Technology Officer, Lutz Stiegler, voices his faith in this novel tech and the benefits it brings to the customers. He enthuses, “Plug & Charge brings premium service within grasp for Polestar 3 customers, making on-the-go charging as undemanding as it gets. We believe this forward-looking technology will greatly enrich customers’ everyday experience, and we’re thrilled to roll it out to Polestar 3 first, with other models in our line-up to follow.”
Reduced Complexity, Increased Access
Polestar 3 owners will no longer be burdened with selecting the precise charging location, identifying which individual charger they’re connected to, or initiating payment to confirm the charging session via the Polestar Charge App or the Polestar Charge card. The Plug & Charge’s seamless operation sees the car directly interacting with the charger with all payment processing internally handled.

Drivers are encouraged to enable this feature through their vehicle’s charging settings and integrate it with the Polestar Charge App or their chosen E-mobility Service Provider. Alongside improved convenience, the Polestar Charge app offers access to over 800,000 public charging stations Europe-wide and subscription-based rapid charging at discounted rates in countless public charging locales leading to not only an easier charging process, but also a more economical one.
The Plug & Charge feature is ready to go live in Polestar 3 now, with additional Polestar models scheduled to adopt the functionality in 2025.
