It makes sense for Nissan to add hybrid electric tech to its highly anticipated Nissan GT-R successor. But what we weren’t expecting was to hear that talks were underway to see if the firm’s flagship supercar eater may in fact go fully electric in a future generation.
Talking to Top Gear Magazine, European EV Director (and the man behind the completely mental Nissan Juke R) explained that a plug-in GT-R could soon become a reality. “We can’t build an electric GT-R today,” he explained. “But do I want to? I’d love to. Will we be able to do that in the future? I can’t see a technical reason why we wouldn’t be able to implement electric vehicle technology in something like a performance vehicle.”
So, another potential Tesla rival for Elon Musk to deal with in the future, then. And if it looks anything like the catchily-named Concept 2020 Vision GT car (pictured) that’s been floating around for a few years, we think it’ll tick all the right boxes for a bonkers EV…
