Mini has courageously lifted the veil on its John Cooper Works versions of the new Cooper and Aceman. Paving the way for future innovation, these models mark the introduction of the first ever all-electric JCWs. Amidst some name-centric chaos (let’s not dwell too much on that!), the newborn electric hatch is officially christened, the Mini John Cooper Works Electric.
Showcased at the Paris Motor Show
Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, both models employ an identical powertrain system. Powered by an electric motor, these all-electric marvels boast 254bhp and 251lb ft of torque directed towards the front wheels. When behind the wheel, these vehicles zoom from 0-62mph in merely 5.9 seconds for the hatchback and 6.4 seconds for the heavier Aceman. Both of them peak at a speed of 124mph, though this high octane power is only available via the new ‘Boost’ switch located behind the steering wheel.
Power, Performance, and Practicality
The power source for these trailblazers is a 54.2kWh (gross) battery, previously seen in the higher spec SE versions of both standard cars. Consequently, the hatchback promises an impressive 251-mile range on a single charge, with the Aceman trailing slightly behind at 243 miles. Equipped with 95kW rapid charging, both models give you the liberty to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in under half an hour.
Design and Delivery
Retaining the signature Mini DNA, these all-electric JCWs feature distinctive John Cooper Works suspension for that quintessential ‘Mini go-kart handling’ feel. Both models sport aggressive body kits, sizeable rear wings, 18in wheels for the Cooper and 19s for the Aceman, and standard fit red brake calipers with a red roof. The interior follows a black and red colour scheme with front sports seats and a circular OLED touchscreen that modern drivers have come to know and appreciate.
These electric titans are set to begin journeys in April 2025, with the John Cooper Works Electric priced at £38,420 and the John Cooper Works Aceman at £40,220. Undoubtedly, these EV JCWs offer a thrilling combination of Mini heritage and electric prowess.
