Mercedes tipped to create ‘EQ’ sub-brand for range of EVs

EQ sub-brand?

Mercedes-Benz has been toying with the idea of creating fully electric cars for a while, but if its recent patent applications are anything to go by, it could have a full range of EVs on the way, falling under the ‘EQ’ moniker.

According to Auto Express, the names EQA, EQB, all the way through to EQZ have been snapped up, along with phrases such as ‘EQ Inside’, ‘EQ Boost’ and ‘Generation MEQ’, perhaps for marketing bumf surrounding the car’s releases.

Tesla, here we come…

We’ve already seen cars such as the firm’s super-futuristic F015 concept ‘lounge on wheels’ (pictured), and it’s rumoured that the first production EV we’ll see from the firm will be a Model S-rivalling saloon, which could be previewed as early as next year.

Merecdes-Benz has ran a range of hybrid versions of its range for a while now, recently incorporating plug-in hybrids, too. It’s thought it’s still a fair few years off selling full-on EVs, though.
