In an impressive feat, Mercedes is adeptly rejuvenating its expansive SUV range. The latest cars to experience a revamp are the compact electric crossover powerhouses, the EQA and EQB. The newly unveiled models feature reinvigorated exteriors, with the focal changes noted on the front black panels filled with stars, freshened bumpers, and refurbished taillight designs. Additionally, four new wheel styles ranging from 18 to 20 inches and two fresh paint options are also on offer.

The Aerodynamics And Range

The EQA benefits from a slight aerodynamic enhancement with a new leading edge for the rear wheel arch and a minimal ridge integrated into the rear lights, serving as a diminutive spoiler. These small upgrades work in tandem to increase the maximum range to a commendable 348 miles.

That extensive range is achievable in the EQA 250+, a single-motor, front-wheel-drive model with 188bhp that receives a larger battery capacity of 70.5kWh. The remaining range settles for a 66.5kWh unit and consists of the FWD 250 (188bhp), the twin-motor 300 4MATIC (225bhp), and the top-tier 350 4MATIC (288bhp). These models boast a maximum DC charging speed of 100kW and the identical battery/motor configurations are available in the EQB, with the distinct exception of the entry-level 250. The more robust 250+ stretches to a maximum of 333 miles in the EQB due to its squarer form.

Interior Enhancements

The cabin upgrades include Merc’s new steering wheel equipped with touch-sensitive ‘buttons’, accompanied by a dash of more star detailing. The standard across-the-board 10.25-inch central touchscreen is accompanied by wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and elevated parking cameras that have been improved.

Mercedes assures us that the sensor upgrades will optimise functionalities like lane keep assist. The ‘sound experiences’ from the larger Mercedes EVs have been incorporated into these models. If you opt for the optional Burmester surround sound system, your EV could resonate with the likes of ‘Silver Waves’, ‘Vivid Flux’, ‘Roaring Pulse’ or ‘Serene Breeze’.

Lifestyle Tweaks

Finally, the EQB now offers a tow bar option for those who enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle. However, it does require a five-seat configuration and can pull 1,700kg even with the 4WD model.

In summary, the refreshed EQA and EQB models bring together style and substance, offering the best of Mercedes’ famed design and EV technology.
