Just before the kick-off of the 2024 FIA Formula 1 season, three-time champion Max Verstappen hit the gas in an entirely different manner. Swapping his usual RBPTH002 1.6l V6 Hybrid PU-powered Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 for the all-electric :Ny1, Verstappen found himself on a surprise mission to meet the next generation of racers.

An Electric Departure

The e:Ny1, with a WLTP-approved range of up to 412 km, a comfortable interior, and a user-friendly powertrain, is designed as the perfect everyday vehicle. This marked a significant departure from Verstappen’s usual racing beast. The silent smooth ride of the e:Ny1 took Verstappen from the Red Bull Technologies Campus to a local indoor go-kart circuit, adding an extra ‘charge’ to the champion’s day.

A Surprise Trackside Visit

Upon arrival, Verstappen watched the young drivers on the track, shared insights from his own early days in motorsport, and offered some invaluable advice. “To be here at the kart track to see the younger kids race, and trying to get into the racing world, is really great to see,” Verstappen noted. “It was great to see their smiles and it’s always great to interact with race fans.”

A Day to Remember for Young Racers

Emeli Jordan, a young racer, echoed the excitement of the day. “It was so surprising, and just such a good experience. I kind of thought it would be someone from Red Bull, not necessarily a driver, like an engineer or someone, but not Max Verstappen. I was completely speechless; I had no idea what to say!”

Meanwhile, Sid Smith, another young enthusiast, said, “It was such a surprise to come round the corner and see Max Verstappen. It’s always been a dream to meet him. It was absolutely awesome. And I got a signed hat as well, so it was definitely a day to remember.”

Looking Ahead to the 2024 Season

The surprise visit signals the start of a significant season for both Verstappen and his team. For Oracle Red Bull Racing, it marks 20 years in the sport. For Honda, it marks 60 years since the debut of the RA271 in the 1964 German GP. With the leading PU technology of Honda RBPT under the hood, Oracle Red Bull Racing aims to secure its fourth consecutive Drivers’ and the third consecutive Constructors’ World Championship titles.

Full footage of Verstappen’s surprise visit is due to be released soon, offering fans an exclusive glimpse of the day’s electrifying events.
