has pulled the wraps off the exterior design of the PV5, the brand’s first dedicated Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV). Unveiled ahead of its full debut at the 2025 Kia EV Day in Spain, the PV5 is set to redefine space and mobility with a modular approach tailored to diverse customer needs.

Previewed as the Concept PV5 at CES 2024, this mid-sized electric van marks the start of Kia’s ambitious ‘Platform Beyond Vehicle’ strategy. Designed from the ground up to prioritise versatility, the PV5 will be available in multiple configurations, including a Passenger Van and a Cargo Van, with additional derivatives and conversion options set to be revealed later this month.

A Design That Balances Form and Function

The PV5 departs from conventional commercial vehicle aesthetics, embracing Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. The result is a striking yet functional look that integrates modern styling with practical elements. A clean, minimalistic upper section contrasts with a robust lower body, underpinned by geometric black cladding around the wheel arches and rocker panels, reinforcing an adventurous, go-anywhere appeal.

At the front, signature technical lighting blends seamlessly into the A-pillars, lending the PV5 a futuristic presence. Meanwhile, the lower bumper features interchangeable corners, serving both as a design feature and a protective element—ideal for vehicles likely to see heavy daily use.

Passenger and Cargo Variants: Tailored for Different Needs

The PV5 will be offered in two primary configurations:

  • PV5 Passenger Van: Designed for those prioritising comfort and practicality, the Passenger Van features a large window area for excellent visibility, framed by striking black graphic accents. Sleek black headlight surrounds and a geometric silhouette give it a modern yet tough aesthetic. At the rear, a single lift-up tailgate and a strong bumper provide a seamless and practical finish.
  • PV5 Cargo Van: While it shares the same core design language as the Passenger model, the Cargo Van adopts a boxier profile, optimised for maximising load space. Twin side-opening rear doors enhance accessibility, making it a highly functional choice for commercial users.

What’s Next for the PV5?

Kia’s unveiling of the PV5 is just the beginning. At the 2025 Kia EV Day in Spain, the brand will showcase additional derivative models and conversion options, reinforcing its commitment to redefining mobility solutions. More details, including in-depth product specifications, will be revealed on 27 February, with a video presentation to follow in March.

With its bold, flexible design and Kia’s proven EV technology underpinning it, the PV5 is shaping up to be a compelling addition to the electric van market. While we await more details, one thing is certain: this isn’t just another commercial EV—it’s a glimpse into the future of adaptable, purpose-built mobility.
