A Journey of Extremes
On the 3rd of August 2022, the Max Adventure team embarked on their ‘Fen to Fell’ expedition. Starting from Britain’s lowest road, Holme Fen in Cambridgeshire, they drove all the way to Britain’s highest, Great Dun Fell in Cumbria – a remarkable feat never before recorded by any vehicle, let alone an electric one.
The robust Kia EV6 GT Line S AWD tackled the 209-mile journey and a 2791 ft climb with impressive ease. Even more striking was the remaining charge at the end of the trek – a splendid 107 miles!
From Lowest Pub to Highest Pub
If the unique journey wasn’t extreme enough, the Max Adventure team also decided to scale another height – traveling from Britain’s lowest pub to its highest, the Tan Hill Inn. The team started from the Admiral Wells in Peterborough, with the Kia EV6 charged to full capacity, and ended their day at the lofty Tan Hill Inn, having covered a total distance of 239 miles. With a considerable 86 miles of range left, this challenge stands as a testament to the Kia EV6’s remarkable endurance and efficiency.
Behind the Wheel, In the Elements
Naturally, you might wonder how the EV6 managed such a demanding journey. With the support of Kia UK, the Max Adventure team meticulously planned the route to ensure the most efficient use of energy. Despite the unpredictable elements such as weather, traffic, and the daunting last stretch of rapid ascent, the Kia EV6 surpassed all expectations.
Max MacKenney, project leader, speaks highly of the EV6’s performance, praising its energy recuperation system that recouped an impressive 10 miles of range during a five-mile descent – a testament to the car’s stellar efficiency.
