Kia’s Electric Lineup Gains Another Contender
Kia has officially revealed European specifications for its all-new EV5 SUV, setting its sights squarely on the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq. The angular electric crossover will hit UK showrooms in early 2026, completing Kia’s “EV” numbered lineup alongside the EV6 and EV9.
Powertrain Options That Matter
European buyers will get three variants from launch:
- Standard Range: 58kWh battery, 218hp, 354 miles WLTP
- Long Range: 81kWh battery, 218hp, 435 miles WLTP
- Dual Motor AWD: 81kWh, 313hp, 385 miles WLTP
All versions support 400V architecture with 150kW DC fast charging (10-80% in 27 minutes). While not the fastest charging in class, Kia promises better real-world range consistency than competitors.
Interior: Where Practical Meets High-Tech
The EV5 showcases Kia’s latest cabin philosophy:
- Rotating 12.3-inch touchscreen (portrait or landscape)
- 4-zone climate control with air purification
- Vehicle-to-load with exterior power sockets
- Lounge Mode with fully reclining front seats
But the real standout? Pet Mode – complete with built-in water bowl holder and rear climate controls to keep furry friends comfortable.
Design That Stands Out
Kia’s designers have gone bold with the EV5’s angular silhouette:
- Pixel-inspired LED lighting front and rear
- Aerodynamic 20-inch alloys with self-sealing tires
- Clamshell bonnet for cleaner front-end styling
- Solar roof option adding up to 1,000 miles annually
At 4,615mm long, it slots neatly between the Niro EV and EV6 in Kia’s lineup.
Pricing and Competition
Expected to start around £38,000, the EV5 will undercut key rivals:
- Volkswagen ID.4 (£41,000+)
- Skoda Enyaq (£37,000+)
- Toyota bZ4X (£39,000+)
Kia’s 7-year warranty and strong dealer network could give it an edge when orders open later this year.
The EV5 shows Kia isn’t resting on its EV laurels – this might just be the smartest electric family car yet.
First European deliveries begin Q1 2026, with test drives available late 2025.
