Kia is expanding its electric lineup, and its latest concept, the EV2, might just be the most intriguing yet. A compact electric SUV with a starting price rumoured to be around £25,000, it’s designed to make EV ownership more accessible without sacrificing tech, range, or practicality.
A Bold, Boxy Design
At first glance, the EV2 looks like a shrunken-down EV9. Kia’s current design language—sharp angles, a chunky stance, and a clean, minimalist front end—translates surprisingly well into a smaller SUV. The short overhangs and squared-off wheel arches give it an aggressive, almost off-road-ready look, while LED lighting adds a modern touch.
Kia hasn’t confirmed dimensions yet, but the EV2 appears to be roughly the same size as a Hyundai Kona Electric or Peugeot e-2008. That puts it in the increasingly competitive small electric SUV segment, where affordability and practicality are key selling points.
Cabin Space Meets Clever Tech
Inside, Kia has gone for a functional yet futuristic approach. The EV2’s most talked-about feature is its flat-folding front seats, which allow passengers to stretch out—or even turn the cabin into a makeshift dining space. It’s a unique touch that hints at Kia’s focus on maximising interior versatility.
The dashboard is dominated by a large, floating touchscreen, seamlessly integrated with the digital driver display. Kia’s latest infotainment system brings over-the-air updates, smartphone connectivity, and an improved voice assistant, making the user experience more intuitive. Expect plenty of recycled and eco-friendly materials throughout, aligning with Kia’s sustainability goals.
Performance and Range Expectations
Kia hasn’t revealed full specs yet, but the EV2 is expected to use the same E-GMP platform as its larger siblings, albeit in a more compact, front-wheel-drive layout. Battery options could start at 40kWh, offering over 200 miles of range, with a larger 58kWh pack pushing that number closer to 280 miles—competitive for an entry-level EV.
Charging speeds should be impressive, thanks to 800V fast-charging tech. Kia claims a 10-80% top-up in under 25 minutes, provided you can find a suitably powerful charger. That’s a significant advantage over many rivals in this price range.
Is the EV2 a Game-Changer?
With a potential £25,000 starting price, solid range, and Kia’s reputation for reliability, the EV2 could be a serious contender in the small EV market. It’s shaping up to be a practical, well-priced alternative to the likes of the Jeep Avenger and the upcoming Renault 5 Electric.
Kia says production will begin in 2026, with final specifications expected closer to launch. If it delivers on its promises, the EV2 could be the car that brings affordable electric SUVs to the mainstream. Keep an eye on this one—it might just be a game-changer.
