Jeep Takes a Leap into Electric Territory
In a bid to emerge as the leading zero-emission SUV manufacturer worldwide, Jeep has taken a colossal step forward in the sphere of battery electric drive. The company has unveiled three of its upcoming electric vehicles and aims to achieve full electric sales in Europe by 2030. In the United States, a market renowned for its affection for gasoline, Jeep anticipates that half of its sales will be electric by the same year.
The three newly revealed vehicles aren’t merely vague promises but concrete examples of Jeep’s commitment to electrification.
A Closer Look at the Trio
The Avenger
The intriguingly named Avenger is the first of the three. Designed in Italy and soon to be manufactured in Poland, this compact Jeep will be launched at the Paris Show on the 17th of October. The Avenger boasts a 250-mile range that is well suited for urban commutes, and it’s expected to attract a younger, potentially more female demographic. This nimble Jeep with its JCB-yellow hue stands out in style and substance.
The Recon
The Recon offers an electrified twist on the classical Jeep blueprint. This vehicle, which will arrive in Europe in 2024 post its US debut next year, features removable doors and a boxy design that is a clear nod to the immensely popular Ford Bronco. The vital difference? The Recon is electric, and electric-only.
The Recon is built on the STLA Large electric platform, which supports 101 to 120kWh batteries and operates at 800 volts. Jeep is confident that the Recon will not only navigate the rigorous Rubicon Trail, one of the US’s most challenging off-road trails, but also return to town with ample battery life to recharge.
The Wagoneer S
The final member of the trio, the Wagoneer S, is an embodiment of luxury. Jeep’s concept renderings suggest that the final model will exhibit more than 95% similarity with the concept. This electric giant is expected to deliver 600bhp from the twin motors and offer a 400-mile range, reaching 0-60 in a mere 3.5 seconds.
Jeep’s Electric Roadmap
These three vehicles are merely the beginning of Jeep’s electrified journey. Jeep has shared plans to introduce four zero-emission vehicles in Europe by 2025, signifying that a mid-sized, electric alternative for Compass or Cherokee is likely to be the fourth member of this electric quartet.
Jeep’s recent reveal is a testament to its commitment towards sustainable transportation and sets an exciting precedent for the future of electric SUVs. Indeed, the world of electric vehicles is witnessing a revolution, and Jeep is driving right at the front.
