It’s been common knowledge for a while now that media mogul and business super-tycoon Richard Branson isn’t a fan of petrol cars.
Rocking around in a Saab 9-5 BioPower estate car as his daily driver and heard to mutter inspirational phrases in the past like “I hope 10 years from now the smell of exhausts from cars will be a thing of the past as much as the smell of cigarettes in restaurants,” it’s almost inevitable that he was recently heard hinting in a Bloomberg interview that one day his Virgin empire may indeed create a rival to the highly successful Tesla franchise.
“We have teams of people working on electric cars,” Branson said. “So you never know-you may find Virgin competing with the Tesla in the car business as we do in the space business. We will see what happens,” he told the news agency.
Should Elon Musk be quivering in his boots? After all, Branson has made a success out of almost everything else in the past, from bottle cola to a space tourism programme.
We’ll sit back and see how this one unfolds…
