Following the trail of all-terrain innovation, is set to launch a spruced-up Ioniq 5 for the U.S. market in 2025. This includes a robust ‘XRT’ version, armed to the teeth with body protection and features that make it a convincing off-roader.

While Hyundai holds back on the details around the dual motor’s capabilities (expected to be within mid-200s), it does share that the 84kWh battery aims for a range between 250-280 miles complemented by an all-wheel drivetrain. Additional features like a 23mm suspension lift kit, offering an approach angle of 19.8 degrees and a departure of 30, and front hooks capable of towing over 2.6 tonnes, are more than just impressive numbers.

“We designed this IONIQ 5 XRT to offer more Protection, Connection, and Functionality. These will be hallmarks of our XRT models going forward,” said Brad Arnold, senior design manager of exteriors, Hyundai Design North America. “The digital camo pattern was created using our IONIQ pixel as the building block. The matte-black 18-inch wheels also display the same IONIQ pixel theme while providing strength and cooling.”

A Robust Yet Refined Exterior

The new Ioniq 5 ‘XRT’ stands out with its black 18-inch aluminium alloys, wrapped in all-terrain tyres. The vehicle also boasts unique front and rear fascia designs, roof rails, and a rear wing. The impressive bodywork is accentuated by black paint across the side sills, mirror caps, and window trims.

Future-Proof Interiors

As part of the overall Ioniq 5 makeover, Hyundai has given the cabin a new look with an updated centre console and steering wheel. Additionally, the 12.3-inch infotainment system now supports over-the-air updates and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The XRT versions come with additional features such as special badges, black headliners, and a slightly different seat upholstery.

“The XRT offers more protection, connection, and functionality,” says Brad Arnold, Hyundai’s exterior design senior manager for North America. The vehicle sports a digital camouflage pattern created using the Hyundai Ioniq pixel as the building block. Even the matte-black wheels follow the same pixel theme while ensuring strength and cooling capabilities.

Launch & Pricing

The launch for the new Ioniq 5 and the XRT version is scheduled for later this month. The prices are expected to start around $45k, with the more sophisticated version expected to push past $50k.

Will Europe See the Ioniq 5 ‘XRT’?

As yet, Hyundai has not provided any official confirmation about bringing this adventurous and rugged EV to Europe. However, given the increasing traction for electric vehicles in the region, it would be a significant milestone if Hyundai decides to introduce such pioneering models in the European market.
