In an industry that continually transcends the limits of speed and innovation, the Rimac Nevera has certainly left an indelible imprint. After a year of smashing acceleration and braking records on world-renowned tracks such as the Nürburgring, the electric powerhouse has now audaciously achieved a new unique feat: it has skilfully danced in the realm of reverse driving at breakneck speed, setting a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title.

Back in Time
Revisiting the celebrated instance when the Lamborghini Miura achieved a stately speed of 170mph in 1967, the Rimac Nevera has replicated the same feat with one noticeable difference: it’s done so while driving backwards. This daring endeavour was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records and substantiated through accurate data from Dewesoft.

Location of Triumph
The scene of this zen-like ballet of reverse driving was set at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany. The same location where, earlier this year, the Nevera proved its mettle by breaking over 20 acceleration and braking records in a day, and reaching an awe-inspiring top speed of 256mph (412km/h). The vehicle showcased was the Nevera Time Attack Edition, a model limited to just twelve units worldwide.

Under the Bonnet
The Nevera’s distinct and commendable performance can be attributed to its unique drivetrain. Unlike conventional internal combustion engine cars or even some electric equivalents, the Nevera utilises four separate motors that can move either forward or backwardS. This innovative system provides a consistent wall of acceleration, even when going in reverse.

Looking Back: Recollections of a Unique Drive
Rimac Website Chief Program Engineer Matija Renić and Test Driver Goran Drndak share intriguing anecdotes about this unexpected record-breaking event. It effectively showcases the sheer resilience and adaptability of the Nevera, even when pushed to its limits in reverse.
Roll of Honour
The Nevera’s reverse speed record is a recent addition to an impressive list of achievements in 2023. This includes an outstanding performance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and a notable victory at the Nordschleife. All this success was accomplished using a Nevera bearing the Time Attack livery, a tribute to the first-ever Rimac record breaker, the e-M3.

The Rimac Nevera’s recent GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title is a testament to the vehicle’s astounding capabilities and the team’s relentless pursuit of innovation. With its cutting-edge technology and raw power, the Nevera continues to redefine the benchmarks of electric vehicle performance. However, it’s crucial to remember that its noble accomplishments do not overshadow the areas for potential improvement. It remains to be seen how the Nevera’s unique attributes will make a lasting impact on the electric vehicle market and the broader automotive landscape.
