Amongst the many car manufacturers to get on board the electric vehicle bandwagon in recent months and years, there are a few that have remained very quiet. We’ve been waiting for Ford to pipe up and begin developing electric-based cars for a while now, so today’s massive, multi-pronged announcement is a bit like receiving a massive early Christmas pressie for us…

First up, as we’re sure you’ve heard by now, the blue oval brand is promising to invest a huge $4.5 BILLION into R&D for electric-powered vehicles by 2020. This is all in anticipation of having at least 40% of the company’s entire new vehicle fleet electrified by the same date. Think about that for a moment – that’s a very ambitious goal…

One of the most hotly discussed models will be the Focus Electric; set to begin production next year, and using new DC fast-charge tech to give up to 80% juice in half an hour. Bring it on!
