Earlier this week, Jonathan Porterfield and Chris Ramsay created British EV history. The pair, using the @PlugInAdventure Twitter handle, documented their epic road trip from John O’Groats to Lands end and back again, hoping to achieve each leg of the journey in under a day.
The weapon of choice? A regular, road-going Nissan Leaf. And the re-fuelling strategy? Use the ever-growing public rapid chargers scattered across the country. If there was any story to quash ‘range anxiety’ fears, this was going to be it.
1762.4 miles later, and the team successfully made it, reaching John O’Groats on Wednesday evening. The first leg of the trip, heading south, took 28 hours and 38 minutes. The Leaf was the promptly turned around for the return journey, which was achieved in 27 hours and 46 minutes. The guys have now submitted the quicker time to the Guinness Book of Records to have it recognised as a record.
With famous followers and even Nissan itself getting involved in the incredible journey, Jonathan and Chris now have quite the tale to share. We’ll hopefully be catching up with them shortly for the full story, but for now, head over to their Twitter page for the initial reactions. Well done, guys!
