Citroën has announced the opening of orders for their latest additions, the New ë-Berlingo and the New ë-SpaceTourer. The manufacturer promises style, comfort, and efficient powertrains in the new models but let’s put the press release under the spotlight and determine what these novel e-rides truly bring to the table.
Unpacking the ë-Berlingo
The New ë-Berlingo has been unveiled with two versions: PLUS and MAX. These models offer some intriguing features like a fully digital driving instrument display and LED lighting system. But it’s the 100% electric powertrain delivering 136hp and a significant 205-mile range that draws the eye. Moreover, the ability to charge from 0-80% in just 30 minutes using a 100kW DC rapid charger is an impressive leap in technology.
However, the performance must be balanced with the cost. With prices starting at £30,990 OTR MRRP, it may be a step too steep for some, especially given the competition in the EV market.
Ë-SpaceTourer: A Closer Look
Citroën’s ë-SpaceTourer boasts “unrivalled comfort and elegant simplicity” but the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Notably, the new model comes available with two battery sizes, giving potential customers a choice of either 139 or 217 miles of range – a potentially decisive factor for many.
However, the corresponding price points, with the base model starting at £37,990, will undoubtedly make or break decisions for would-be buyers. The value for money question is one that will really be in consumers’ minds, with equally viable alternatives in the market.
The New ë-Berlingo and ë-SpaceTourer certainly bring a lot to the table, with their impressive range, convenient charging times and focus on comfort. But the high starting cost, especially against competitors, may dampen the initial excitement for potential buyers.
Without a doubt, Citroën is pushing boundaries in the electric vehicle space. However, the combination of price and competition makes the ultimate success of these new models an interesting space to watch. Will the comfort and efficiency promised by Citroën be enough to lure a significant customer base, or will the high price tag prove to be a hurdle too high? Only time will tell.
