Electric vehicles (EVs) have moved far beyond the realms of science fiction, into reality, and now plans to make these sustainable transport options even more accessible by producing reasonably priced, quick-charging cars.

Reinventing Popular Models

Citroen has a vision to revolutionise the electric vehicle market by 2024, and this isn’t limited to conceiving entirely new models. The company’s plan includes revamping the popular C3 and C3 Aircross models, equipping them with electric powertrains, thereby making electric mobility more attainable for the average UK consumer.

Affordable EVs: The Key to Mass Adoption

Eurig Druce, Citroen’s UK chief, is of the firm belief that the average Citroen buyer, who usually falls within a £20k budget, has been largely overlooked in the burgeoning EV market. Druce advocates for a shift in focus towards providing affordable electric cars, thereby catering to a wider segment of the car-buying public.

The Decisive Factors: Usability and Infrastructure

The notion of ‘usability over range’ is central to Citroen’s strategy. Druce views this as a two-pronged approach: developing efficient, high-power charging electric vehicles, and the establishment of a robust charging infrastructure.

Citroen aims to produce EVs with smaller batteries that can charge quickly, thereby reducing overall vehicle weight and charge time. The company believes this approach is in line with the practical needs of most supermini drivers who typically cover less than 120 miles between breaks.
