For those yet to lay eyes on it, allow us the pleasure of introducing the Avenger. This nifty, compact SUV is preparing to make landfall on European terrain, promising to grace our plains, highlands, and mountainous regions sometime in early 2023.

The Avenger, perhaps an over-the-top moniker for what’s essentially the American cousin of the and 2008, stands as the inaugural Jeep product flowing from the combined efforts of the alliance. This means, like its European counterparts, the Avenger can replace fossil fuels with cleaner electric propulsion.

Nailing down the Specs

At its core, the Avenger is a compact EV SUV boasting a commendable 150bhp with front-wheel drive. Perfect for its Mokka sibling, but does it measure up to the rough, off-road reputation so synonymous with Jeep?

This brings us to the Avenger 4×4 concept. This version aims to add a dose of traditional ‘Jeepness’ (yes, that’s a thing now) to this little warrior, earning it its badge and iconic grille. But do electric vehicles even need a grille?

The Trappings of True Jeepness

The Avenger 4×4 concept adheres to the hallmarks of traditional Jeep design: beefy tyres for enhanced ground clearance (just over eight inches), improved approach, breakover and departure angles (21, 20, and 34 degrees respectively), and thicker cladding with an anti-scratch grille treatment to ensure terrain encounters don’t void your lease. It also boasts a ‘lightweight roof cargo system’, which might just be an elaborate term for four tie-down points and some ratchet straps.

Added Features for Enhanced Functionality

The package is rounded off with built-in flood lights to improve visibility during night driving, a clever addition following the Feature-Advantage-Benefit strategy. Then there’s this anti-reflective black bonnet sticker, a feature whose advantage and benefit Jeep leaves up to our imagination.

A New Breed of EV

Even though there’s a degree of over-explanation in Jeep’s official rhetoric, it’s difficult not to appreciate this supremely compact off-roader. Although currently just a concept, it genuinely feels like an electric vehicle you’d be eager to take off the beaten path – venturing into unexplored territories.
