A new era is on the horizon for Jaguar, a storied brand synonymous with British automotive heritage. Top executives from the company recently unveiled plans for their much-anticipated reshaping with the introduction of an entirely new generation of electric vehicles. The first in this triumvirate of groundbreaking vehicles is a four-door GT with a starting price tag of £100,000.
Silence Before the Storm
After a lull – considered crucial by Jaguar’s senior team as they meticulously planned the automaker’s future – we now have an insight into what this iconic brand’s revival will entail. The new cars will be built upon a custom-designed ‘Jaguar Electric Architecture’. As Jaguar transitions to an exclusively electric brand from 2025, this all-new framework will serve as the foundation for its novel range of cars.
An Electrifying Future
The GT’s powertrain targets an all-electric range of 700km (approximately 430 miles). Moreover, according to Jaguar’s CFO, Lennard Hoornik, this will be “the most powerful Jaguar ever”, although detailed specifications remain under wraps for now. Whilst Jaguar is not manufacturing its own battery cells, they have secured a reliable supply from parent company Tata, who will build a gigafactory in Europe.
British Made, World-Ready
The British automaker is investing £1bn and will manufacture these innovative electric cars in a dedicated facility in Solihull. The design ethos for these new vehicles is defined as “a copy of nothing”, echoing the words of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons. This vision calls for fresh and unique designs that will stand out rather than compete with contemporaries.
Project Renaissance
Under the umbrella of ‘Project Renaissance’, Jaguar is set to be entirely reimagined. This ambitious project is not about mere cosmetic tweaks, but a total transformation that will “shock” the motoring world. The design teams are still fine-tuning the ultimate look of these cars, but one thing is clear – they aim to make the world take notice.
A Brand of Brands
These exciting developments will see Jaguar join a ‘house of brands’, alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery, effectively making each a standalone brand. This strategic move will enhance clarity and contribute to the distinctive identities of each of these iconic British automotive brands.
The Start of Something Big
The enthusiasm and dedication of the senior team, including JLR boss Adrian Mardell, a company veteran of 32 years, is testimony to their commitment to Jaguar’s resurgence. In Mardell’s words – “This is the beginning to put right unfinished business. This is personal.”
As we await the completion of this ‘unfinished business’, the anticipation for Jaguar’s all-electric rebirth continues to grow, promising a thrilling future for this quintessentially British brand.
