The renowned automaker Abarth has finally announced the pricing details of its fully electrified hot hatch range. Leading the pack is the 500e Cabrio with a price tag of a staggering £37,195 in the UK market. But is it worth the investment? Let’s delve into the details.
A Pricey Entry
Earlier this year, Abarth introduced its fully-electric ‘Scorpionissima’ launch edition hot hatch which came with a hefty price tag of £38,695. Although the price seemed high, car enthusiasts hoped that the standard car’s debut would lower the rate, and it did, albeit not significantly.
The 500e Cabrio, with a foldable roof, is Abarth’s answer to those seeking a touch of luxury, excitement, and the thrill of an open-top drive. Priced at £37,195, the Cabrio isn’t inexpensive, and that’s just for the base model. Buyers looking to upgrade to the 500e Turismo Cabrio will have to shell out a whopping £41,195.
Exploring the 500e Range
The 500e hard-topped hatch, on the other hand, will start at a slightly less exorbitant £34,195. Its Turismo variant, priced at £38,195, promises a host of upgrades including 18-inch wheels, an Alcantara-filled interior, heated seats, wireless phone charging, and a few more tech goodies, up from the regular 17-inch wheels.
The UK versions also come equipped with Abarth’s much-debated ‘Abarth Sound Generator’- an external speaker that emulates the brand’s traditional petrol engine notes, and a standard JBL internal audio system.
High Price for High Performance?
Despite its steep price, Abarth’s 500e Cabrio could potentially find its niche within the sporty electric convertible market, especially considering it’s the only player until MG‘s Cyberster enters the field in the summer of 2024. High-quality specs and unique features might make it an attractive option for those who don’t mind the high price tag.
Abarth’s 500e Cabrio is undeniably pricey. However, with its sporty attributes, distinctive features, and the unique thrill of convertible riding, it may just carve out a niche for itself in the burgeoning EV market. The real question, however, remains- are you tempted enough to get one?
