0-62mph world record smashed by formula student team

Remember around a year ago, when we told you that the University of Stuttgart had smashed AMZ Racing’s 0-100km/h time for a car, with a time of 1.779 seconds? Well it seems the Zurich based AMZ team haven’t taken the defeat lying down, as they’ve just come back to destroy the time with a 1.513 result. Now that’s seriously quick!

With more carbon fibre than before, weight in the mini-but-mighty EV racer – nicknamed ‘Grimsel’, has dropped to just 168kgs. And with 200bhp to play with, it’s no wonder it flies off the line when you punch the throttle pedal.

The result comes ahead of the annual Formula Student Germany event held at the Hockenheimring in August, where AMZ came second last year. Sounds like they’re going to do rather successfully this year, too, if this is anything to go by…
