Aston Martin to create 1000bhp electric Rapide

There’s been talk of an electric Aston Martin on the cards for a while. In fact, we even mentioned it on this very website a few months ago. But now it’s official, according to the company’s boss who confirmed the rumours at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Conference this week.

The Rapide will be the first car in the range to receive the electric treatment. Which makes sense, as the luxury four-door is the closest car Aston Martin has to models such as the Tesla Model S and proposed Porsche Mission E.

It’s not going to be a slouch by the sounds of it, either. With up to 1000bhp and a 200 mile range hinted at, we’re thinking that it’s going to be a fair replacement for the company’s signature V12.

CEO Andy Palmer continued to explain that the ball was very much already rolling with this project, with a test mule being mocked up and data being analysed by a special team as we speak. And with a unveil date as soon as 2017 a reality, you might not have to wait quite as long as you think to see it for yourself…
